A Philly Brewer Weds at — Where Else — Philadelphia Brewing Company

The fun continues with a reception at Martha, another favorite watering hole.

The spring wedding of Erin Lynn Legg and Brian William Forrest involved a brew-heavy theme with a pretty ceremony at Philadelphia Brewing Company and a lovely reception at Martha in Kensington. (And it’s no surprise that it does: the groom is an owner and distiller for Red Brick Craft Distillery!) Before the celebrations, the couple got ready at Wm. Mulherin’s Sons Hotel. The elegant, minimalist affair at fun local spots was coordinated and designed by Rabbit Rabbit Crew. See it all in the gorgeous photos below by Inna from Peach Plum Pear Photography.

The pair were both living in Philadelphia when they met through a modern medium: OK Cupid. (Their first date was at the former East Girard Gastropub). They hit it off so well that for their second date they took it to the next level immediately: they went to Brian’s small work Christmas party. That pretty much set the tone for their relationship,  since they moved in together only four months later.

The couple dated for 2 1⁄2 years. They got engaged at Wissahickon Park in a dog-centric moment one Sunday morning during a hike in the Wissahickon. “We grabbed bagels and coffee from Philly Style Bagels, my favorite,” remembers Erin, “Then when I was trying to keep track of Myrtle on the trail I turned around and Brian was down on his knee with the ring out.”

Totally surprised, she said yes! “After we went home and phoned some family and friends, we continued the celebration at Frankford Hall and then Llyod’s,” says Erin. They were engaged for 2 years. ‘We got pregnant with our daughter Hazel and delayed the wedding until after we had her,” says Erin.

Their 100 guests enjoyed dining on bites in an indoor-outdoor space at Martha at their May wedding. When the couple entered, their first dance was to “If We Were Vampires” by Jason Isbell and the 400 Unit. The favors were a favorite element: whiskey glasses with scene from their invitation of outside Martha and Philadelphia Brewing Company, designed by Nicole from Rabbit Rabbit.

Another touching element was the dessert, which was baked according to a special and sentimental recipe. “The cake was Apple Stack Cake,” says Erin, “It was my great grandmother’s recipe, a traditional wedding cake from the Appalachians. It was a surprise for my mom as she didn’t know I got her recipe card and gave it to the chef to follow.”

After their celebration they headed off on a tropical honeymoon in Tulum, Mexico. They then returned to their home in Kensington, where Erin is a technical designer for Free People, and Brian is an owner and distiller for Red Brick Craft Distillery.
