Andrew Sorbo tells his story

The Defense of Marriage Act (DOMA) is arguably the most devastating law in the country for LGBT people. Not only does it discriminate against same-sex couples who marry in states where gay marriage is legal, but it denies them from the same rights as straight couples in all 50 states.

In a new video from HRC, Andrew Sorbo talks about the challenges he faced after losing his partner Colin to pancreatic cancer. “Because of DOMA,” says Sorba, “when Colin passed away, the household income dropped by 80 percent.” He was forced to sell the home they shared together.

They had been together for almost 30 years.
