Tyler Ann Sylk and Michael Kirk Huber met at Franklin & Marshall College and were instantly intrigued by each other. “My first impression of Michael was that he was nerdy but fun,” Tyler says. “I immediately started referring to him as my crush.”

As for Michael’s first impression, “Tyler was so cute and different from me,” he shares. “I liked who I was when I was with her.”

For their first date, the pair dined at a pizza place on their college campus in Lancaster. Tyler, a picky eater, ordered buttered noodles — an inside joke among their friends still today.

A decade-long relationship resulted in a proposal orchestrated by Michael at the Jersey Shore. He proposed on the coast, unfazed by a wave that crashed on him, then led Tyler off the beach to meet their friends and family, whom he had secretly invited to partake in the occasion.

In July 2019, the couple said “I do” at the Barnes Foundation, surrounded by 242 guests. Butterflies were prevalent throughout the celebration: A handmade butterfly gate separated the cocktail hour from the reception space, the seating cards were cut out butterflies, and not only did the bride have butterflies — her shoes did, too.

For the bride and groom, the most sentimental part of the wedding was seeing their grandmothers participate in the ceremony as flower girls. “They were very good sports and got a wonderful reception and applause,” Tyler says.
