PW Reader Ring: Ashley and Will!

Ashley’s ring!
The couple: Ashley Scioli and Will Omlor, from West Chester.
The ring: My ring has a Gabriel & Co. round brilliant-cut diamond set with white-gold prongs on a rose gold band. Will bought the ring from Big Diamond Importers and Fine Jewelry in West Chester. I mentioned a few times I wanted something simple and liked rose gold, but he picked it out it all on his own! It is perfect and exactly what I wanted.
The proposal: Will and I have been dating for over six years and we recently purchased our first home, so I knew at some point we would get engaged, but wasn’t really sure of when it would happen.
I woke up early on a recent Saturday morning before work to drive to my Grandmom’s house to take care of her, as she had been on hospice for several weeks. I was there for about 20 minutes getting her ready for the day when Will walked in. I didn’t think anything of it, because family had been in and out visiting her since she had been diagnosed with stage four cancer. Will told me he had a gift to give to my Grandmom and wanted me to come by her bedside to give it to her with him. All I could think to myself was ,”Can you please hurry up? I have to go to work!”
The next thing I knew, Will took out a little blue box and it was then that I finally realized what was happening. He told my grandmother that he knew how special she was to me and that he wanted her to be a part of this special moment! Will said many other kind words and got down on one knee and asked me to marry him by her beside! I was in such shock that I couldn’t even answer, so he had to ask me again! It was one of the sweetest moments of my life! My mom was also there to share in the moment and was able to capture some very special pictures.
Our engagement was a mix of emotions as my Grandmom (at 97 years young) passed away just three short days later. I found out after the fact that when we found out her diagnosis, Will immediately decided he wanted her to witness our engagement, so he got the ring. Will also asked my Grandmom for her blessing about a week before, so needless to say she hung on as long as she could to be a part of it. I couldn’t have asked for a more special, meaningful engagement and am so happy my Grandmom witnessed it in her final days with us.
The band: I plan on getting a matching rose gold band to go with my engagement ring, but I’m not sure yet if I want it to be plain or blingy! We will probably get both of our bands where Will purchased my ring in West Chester.
