When it comes to DIY-ing your Big Day, we often advise brides to err on the side of caution when it comes to what you choose to tackle yourself (your wedding day is probably not the best time to put your arts and crafts skills to the test). But for those of you who are determined to give the whole DIY thing a go, we suggest you start by taking a lesson or two from the pros—beginning with the Styled Bride‘s new workshop series launching in March.

The first event, a modern calligraphy class taught by Kim Shrack of Manayunk Calligraphy, will take place on Sunday, March 8 at the Sculpture Study Center at the Pennsylvania Academy of Fine Arts. Each participant will receive a lovely kit of supplies (so you can practice at home before addressing your invites or place cards) and a light brunch will be provided by Stephen Starr Events.

Here’s what you’ll be learning during the three hour-long workshop:

  • How to use and assemble your new tools.
  • The ins and outs of basic calligraphy.
  • How to script the alphabet, including numbers and symbols, too.
  • And how to bring it all together to create your invites, escort cards and other elements for your affair.

The workshop lasts from 11 am-2 pm and only 12 seats are available. Head on over here to reserve your spot and to sign up to receive details about future workshops.
