Romney Got Five-Point Bump From Debate

The latest Gallup poll looks to quantify Mitt Romney’s “victory” in the first presidential debate. Heading into the debate, President Obama held a five-point lead among registered voters. That lead is no more. According to Gallup’s latest poll, Mitt Romney pulled even with President Obama in the three days of polling immediately after the debate.

Now, with the race more competitive, Obama and Romney are essentially tied. Obama leads Romney by 49% to 46% among registered voters, but the difference is within the poll’s margin of error.

Jones writes that the shift is “significant, given the competitiveness of the race throughout this presidential campaign year and the fact that debates rarely transform presidential races.” [USA Today]
