Gaga Creates Foundation
Her hit single “Born This Way” has become an anthem for LGBT rights. And that inspired Lady Gaga to create the Born This Way Foundation to fight anti-gay bullying with some help from the California Endowment, MacArthur Foundation and Harvard University’s Berkman Center. The foundation is expected to officially launch next year with an advisory board to be announced soon.
The singer revealed this week that the nonprofit foundation will focus on youth empowerment and issues like self-confidence, well-being, anti-bullying, mentoring and career development.
“Together we hope to establish a standard of bravery and kindness, as well as a community worldwide that protects and nurtures others in the face of bullying and abandonment,” the pop star says in a statement.
Both Gaga and her mother Cynthia Germanotta will reportedly be involved in the management of the nonprofit.
“Lady Gaga will help empower and give voice to young people who find themselves overwhelmed, under-supported, disconnected, isolated, bullied or struggling,” says Dr. Bob Ross, CEO and president of the California Endowment. “This brand of leadership is sorely needed in today’s world.”
