The Check-Up: Monkeys Move Things with Their Minds
It's just like Avatar, but for real
I’ve never actually seen the movie Avatar, but from what I’ve heard this is just like it, only real life. Researchers at Duke have figured out a way to get monkeys to move a virtual arm using only their minds. Even crazier, the monkeys can distinguish between different textures. Although the research is in its early stages, the hope is that it can eventually be developed into robotic limbs that would allow quadriplegics to move, feel and touch.
