My weekly guide to great stuff in Philly. By Matthew Izzo

Commonwealth Proper

Navaya Shay

Everyone goes crazy for a sharp-dressed man this season. There are also new ways to feather your nest and show some love for your favorite hunks. Here are three great Philly picks.

I love that Commonwealth Proper‘s local designer Craig Von Schroeder is bringing us back to our Philadelphia roots (think: 1880). Back when Philly was truly a global epicenter for men’s suit production, a custom-made suit was the only way to go. These new locally designed men’s suits combine a classic look with a sleek, modern edge that remind us just how important it is to find the perfect fit in time for the holiday season.

You’re in luck! Host Interiors, with two locations in Old City and Chestnut Hill, is having a handsome floor sample sale this week. This is your chance to primp your pad with a new look for the holiday party season from the likes of Mitchell Gold + Bob Williams. Impress your friends and family with new furniture, upholstery, casegoods and lighting from this two-time “Best of Philly” winner. It’s a stylish way to say “Happy Thanksgiving.”

Host Chestnut Hill

Don’t miss the U.S. National Mr. Gay Competition that heats up Voyeur this Saturday, November 13 (8 p.m.). Celebrity judges will be in the house, including Village Voice resident gadfly Michael Musto and makeup artist to the stars David Evangelista. Emerging drag superstar Navaya Shay will kick off the contest with a fierce Lady Gaga medley accompanied by the Philadelphia Freedom Band. It’s a great way to show some love for your favorite hotties from Philly and beyond.
