You may remember a documentary a few years back about the Sierra Leone Refugee All-Stars, the reggae-ish Afro-beat ensemble that was born out of that country’s civil war. (For a primer, listen to this report on the band from NPR’s All Things Considered). Tonight, World Cafe Live brings a rare chance to see them live. Tickets are $25-$35. Also at WCL (upstairs) is one of my favorite monthly events in the city, the First Person StorySlam. This month’s theme: “A perfect storm.” $10. Take note that Philly theater fave Jennifer Childs is hosting and that theater industry get 2-for-1 tickets.

And all the way on the other end of town, Nashville’s wild and crazy Legendary Shack Shakers – think fire-and-brimstone oompah punk – come to Johnny Brenda’s. $12.
