You Can Play – If You’re Gay

Professional hockey players fight homophobia with a new PSA

Patrick Burke, a scout for the Philadelphia Flyers, joins his father Brian and several hockey all-stars in a new PSA to fight homophobia in the sports world. Burke, who’s brother Brendan, fought for gay equality in sports before his untimely death, gives a testimony to his legacy and the need for gay rights among athletes with a simple message that if you’re gay you can still play.

The PSA is part of the You Can Play Project that invites 10 NHL players to join the Burkes in their efforts to level the playing field – or in this case – the rink. The Flyers’ own James Van Riemsdyk is featured in the video, along with pros Brian Boyle,Tyler Bozak, Mark Fayne, Andy Greene, Frans Nielsen, George Parros, Brendon Prust, David Steckel and R.J. Umberger.
