This New Philly Running Group Combines Three Awesome Activities Every Week

If you always skip your Friday-evening workouts (who doesn't?), this new group just may help you stick to your sweat sessions.

If you’re into running, rock climbing and beer drinking, we’ve got some steady Friday night plans for you to pencil into your calendar: The new Philly running group Rock N’ Run, started by local runner Sarah Cowley last month, spends every Friday evening running to a rock climbing gym, then refueling post-climb session with drinks at nearby bar.

Yes: This running group combines running (duh), rock climbing AND bar hanging. Amazing, right?

As Cowley tells us, she started the group last month after having trouble finding a group that runs on Fridays. And since she was starting the group from scratch, she figured why not combine a few of her favorite hobbies? Rock N’ Run meets at Philadelphia Runner’s Center City store at 16th and Sansom at 7 p.m. on Fridays then heads out for a two- to four-mile run, ending at Delaware Avenue’s Go Vertical rock climbing gym for two hours of climbing or bouldering (the runs are free to join in on but rock climbing will run you $17 or $19, depending on whether you boulder or climb). At around 9:30, they head to a nearby bar or brewery for, in Cowley’s words, “food and drinks to start the weekend right.” Hear, hear.

You can keep up with Rock N’ Run by joining their Facebook group here. Here’s to never not having Friday night plans!
