Temple and Fox Chase to Merge

Temple announced last week that it's bringing Fox Chase Cancer Center into its health system.

Temple University Health System will bring Fox Chase Cancer Center under its umbrella by next summer, officials from both healthcare facilities announced last week. They described the move as a “win-win”: Fox Chase will add a world-class cancer treatment and research wing to Temple, while Temple provides Fox Chase with specialists and a referral network as well as the physical space to expand its own operations. Fox Chase will soon occupy 30,o00 square feet of clinical space at Temple’s Jeanes Hospital in Northeast Philly—right next door to its own facility.

As the Inquirer reports, Temple will also be taking on an undisclosed amount of debt from the cancer center, as well as investing $9.4 million in cancer research. Before the deal is made final, the arrangement will need additional regulatory and financial approval.
