For Parents: Summer Fun 5K

Help keep Philly's kids moving

Run a 5K to support the Let's Read! Let's Move initiative

As part of Michelle Obama’s campaign to end childhood obesity and encourage healthy lifestyles, the Let’s Read! Let’s Move! Summer Challenge will enter its second season in Philadelphia. The initiative aims to keep kids active, both mentally and physically, during their time away from school through fun activities like the Summer Fun 5K Run and 1-Mile Walk on July 10, followed by the Summer Festival. Warm up with your child at the 5K along the Schuylkill River Trail and then hit up the many fitness activities at the festival, including dancing, yoga, relay races, and obstacle courses. Get your youngsters involved in the games for a chance to win books to keep their minds as busy as their feet, and make sure to refuel with the variety healthy snacks that will be available! Even if you’re not a parent, lace up your sneakers anyway, because a portion of the proceeds benefit Students Run Philly Style and the Valentino Memorial Fund, which both work to promote active lifestyles. – Kathryn Siegel
