Bride-to-be Blogger Jennifer: The Last “Single” Holidays
Am I really single? Well, no, and I haven’t identified myself as such in a few years — but these holidays will mark the last before I take on a new name, a new kind of shared existence. Sure, we are already going through the motions, but like any big life event, I assume that I will feel a little different after we’re actually married, a small twinge of change.
To mark these “last” holidays, I am taking on a new project. I mentioned in one of my early posts that I asked my sister to be my maid of honor with a scrapbook page — scrapbooking being an activity that she enjoys, as well. Following the guidance of that shared hobby, I decided that I would take on a page-a-day scrapbook challenge for December 2010.
Through an online class at shimelle.com, I will receive a daily prompt intended to initiate a reflection onto the events going on around these holidays. It’s called Journal Your Christmas 2010, and I feel like — what better year to take this on?
I think it will be fun to look back and think — wow, I managed to do this all while planning a wedding? That’s only one of the perks. These 30 or so pages will be a permanent keepsake of how I spent these last holidays before officially beginning our family. It will give me the chance to chronicle all of the wonderful traditions that our families enjoy around the holidays and bring them forward with us into 2011 and our lives together.
There I go getting all cheesy again. It must be the time of year, with the holiday music already putting a spring in my step — so to bring this back to reality, I should confess that there is a more selfish angle to this project. I think it will also give me a needed outlet when things get stressful — due to the holidays and wedding planning alike. Either way, I am looking forward to the challenge.
How are you marking these “last” days? What are you doing/did you do to release the stress of planning a wedding?
