You’re Engaged! …Where Do You Go From Here?

Wedding-to-do-USE

He finally popped the question and you’re over the moon with excitement.

The day you’ve been dreaming about is really going to happen and you couldn’t be happier.  Once you stop staring at that gorgeous ring, you jump online and scour the Internet for ideas. Pinterest board, check, wedding blog, check, information overload, check.  All of your friends and family are thrilled for you – and eager to share their opinion as to what you should and shouldn’t do as you plan your wedding.  Now your head is spinning – oh dear!

“Take it from someone who has worked with thousands of brides – what you really need to do is stop and take a deep breath,” advised Phyllis Jablonowski,  CEO of Queen of Hearts Wedding Consultants and Eventricity, a full service floral art and event design company. The idea is to enjoy the process – but don’t let it take over your life. Too many brides wind up exhausted on their wedding day and don’t have the day of their dreams because of it.

First things first. Understand that you don’t have to lock in every detail today.  “Talk it over with your guy and decide what one thing is a must to make your day perfect,” said Jablonowski. “If it’s the venue, the band, the date, the church or synagogue – whatever it is, make that your priority and go from there.”  Decide what investment you are able to make in this celebration and that will also determine your choices.

Ask for help if you need it from a seasoned wedding professional, help which may be a few hours of strategic planning to determine your time line and budget or opt for full service planning that takes care of every detail including stamping the envelopes for the RSVPs.

The last thing you want to do is have regrets about the time leading up to your wedding. “Managing stress, keeping expectations realistic and remembering to breathe – and have fun, will keep that from happening,” added Jablonowski. Planning your wedding, like most milestones in life, happens one step at a time, not all at once.
