This Old City Wedding Perfectly Blends Rustic Chic with City Cool

Why don't more people get married at La Peg?

Here at PW, we are always super excited to see a unique and fun wedding that takes place right in the city. Allie Martin and Jeremy Guillard’s breezy Race Street Pier union was followed by an industrial-meets-countryside reception at La Peg at Fringearts in Old City, and it is, in our opinion, a perfectly elegant celebration done with impeccable style and just a hint of whimsy. (You’ll see what we mean when you get to the groom’s cake.) Lucky for us,  Alison Dunn Photography was there to capture every moment.

Allie and Jeremy met in nursing school here in Philadelphia. Despite having mutual friends, the pair didn’t start hanging out until the final days of their program.  They quickly realized their compatibility, and frequently spent lunch breaks and walks home side-by-side. Allie found Jeremy to be smart, witty and good-looking — and his cooking skills were a huge bonus. Jeremy thought Allie was both beautiful and vibrant.

One day, Allie realized her car had been towed from about two weeks prior when her sister-in-law, future maid of honor and Philly Mag executive editor, Ashley Primis, called to ask to borrow her car. After a call to Jeremy, Allie’s knight in shining armor quickly arrived to give her a lift to the impound lot. In return for the ride, Allie offered to cook Jeremy dinner — a brave proposition to a guy with a background in cooking at Marc Vetri’s Amis. The pair considers this night to be their first date as well as their anniversary.

Three years later, Jeremy and Allie accompanied some of her family on a vacation to Italy. After a day of museum hopping and dinner in Florence, Jeremy proposed to Allie in their hotel room.

Just shy of a year later, Allie and Jeremy exchanged vows in a beautiful outdoor ceremony overlooking the Delaware River at Race Street Pier. The celebration continued just across the street at La Peg at FringeArts, where guests ohhh-ed and ahhh-ed at the venue’s moving wall when it opened to reveal the dinner space. The brasserie filled guests with a delicious meal of roasted chicken, pot roast and veggies, all served family-style.

Allie and Jeremy’s band slayed the day, encouraging an impromptu father-daughter dance — or, more accurately, a father-daughter dance-off — to Michael Jackson’s “Billy Jean.” (The song happens to be Allie’s father’s favorite song to dance to.)

Allie and Jeremy swayed to Ray La Montagne’s “You are the Best Thing” for their first dance, and later cut into a two-tier strawberry shortcake. (The black belt-themed groom’s cake was a nod to Jeremy earning the status in Brazilian Ju Jitsu shortly before the wedding.) They currently live in State College, where he is a registered nurse and she is a nurse practitioner.
