The moment we set eyes on this gorgeous ensemble that Olivia Palermo wore to tie the knot last year, we were pretty much sold on the idea of wedding-day separates.

In Olivia’s case, she created her own unique look by pairing a cashmere sweater with white shorts and a full tulle skirt overlay (all custom-designed by Carolina Herrera), but we’ve seen plenty of designers incorporating the two-piece trend into their latest collections as well—we even know a few real brides who have rocked this style, too!

For nontraditional brides who want a change from the classic wedding dress silhouettes, separates are a more flexible solution that gives you the freedom to customize your look to suit your style and body shape. Whether you mix and match individual pieces to create your own ensemble, or you opt for a coordinating crop top and skirt like the beautiful Reem Acra gown pictured here, the options are endless.

Are you considering separates for your Big Day?
