Each month Philadelphia magazine asks notable Philadelphians to share their favorite spots in the region. This month, restaurateur Michael Solomonov takes us to the river.

Why Boathouse Row?

The little cafe there has this kale-apple juice that’s just ridiculously good — probably because I’m about to die from running nine miles on the river loop. Everybody there is kind of jumping up and down, happy, and joyous.

First visit?

The first time I ran the loop was the first year I ran the Broad Street Run, probably 2004.

How often do you go?

At least twice a month; ideally, once a week.

Best time of day?

Pre-dusk, six, seven, or eight, once it cools off a bit and the sun is setting. If you catch it just right, running down West River Drive when the boathouse lights go on, it’s lit-up and magical and wonderful.
