Mine Detonated Near New Jersey Beach

CBS reports:

A military explosives team has detonated a suspected mine that a diver discovered partially buried in the sand in the ocean off New Jersey.

A plume of water shot about 125 feet in the air, and a boom echoed through Bay Head on Wednesday.

Naval Weapons Station Earle public affairs officer Michael Brady says the base’s explosives ordnance disposal detachment will go back in the ocean to be sure they eliminated the whole device.

The upside? The Nazi invasion never made it ashore in 1943.
