Playdar: Get to Know Capital Cities

The L.A. indie rock group will make a perfect addition to your summer playlist.

There is nothing I love more than spring: The birds chirping, sun shining — even the blooming dogwood trees that smell like the basement in The Bike Stop. But nothing quite says summer’s coming than a perfect, upbeat tune. A good contender for this year’s warm-weather playlist? Capital Cities out of L.A.

Throw in a touch of Jamiroquai, a dash of Modest Mouse and blend in some Foster the People and you have the beats and grooves of Ryan Merchant and Sebu Simonian, the energetic duo behind Capital Cities. Due out June 4, their debut album, In a Tidal Wave of Sound, is deep and electrifying. The tunes flow like a nice spring breeze — perfect for driving around  with the top down or popping in your earbuds for a strut around the Gayborhood in your favorite booty shorts.

I’ve attached clips of three of my favorite songs from the group. I was instantly hooked when I heard Capital Cities, and I’m sure you will be too. Let me know what you think.
