Comcast Is One of America’s Best Employers For Gay Workers

The Human Rights Campaign, which campaigns for gay and lesbian rights, has released its 2013 Corporate Equality Index—a look at which companies offer the best and worst climates for their LGBT employees. Philadelphia-based Comcast and its subsidiary, NBCUniversal, received a perfect score from the HRC. (The company was aided by the presence of sympathetic gay characters on shows like The New Normal, Smash, and Chicago Fire on NBC, but it also offers benefits to partners of employees.) Two Philadelphia law firms—Dechert LLP and Morgan, Lewis & Bockius—also received perfect scores. Not every Philadelphia company scored highly, though: Crown Holdings received the city’s lowest score (15 out of 100) among businesses rated; Sunoco received a score of 30, though that beat its 2012 score of 15.
