State Senate Passes an Arlene Ackerman-Themed Buyout Bill

To prevent another incident like former superintendent Arlene Ackerman’s $905,000 buyout (ugh, it still hurts to type that) last year, the Pennsylvania state Senate has passed a bill capping future superintendent buyouts. The bill—which passed 44-0—calls for buyout stipulations to be laid out in public records ahead of time and limits the potential buyout of a superintendent with two years left on his or her contract to be equal or less than one year’s salary and benefits.
