It’s a Drag: B’Way and Beyond

Call it “show-and-tell” for the show tune set. Tomorrow night, Sept. 21 (10:30 p.m.), the Venture Inn hosts Broadway & Beyond, an evening of high camp (and high drag) in the name of the Great White Way.

Robert “Sandy” Beach hosts the event – which he describes as a tribute to the music of both the stage and the screen. It’s Beach’s first time back in the spotlight all summer as he gets ready for this event, and a few upcoming gigs in Atlantic City this fall.

“I’m trained as a singer and dancer,” he says, promising some new twists on old favorites from Sunset Boulevard, Funny Girl, Follies, Sweet Charity, Nine and many others.

Joining Beach are a few familiar faces from behind the bar, like Hennistacia Sterling-Beach (Henry Brinton, who’s rumored to have the roller skates ready) and first-timer Bridget Johns (Christopher McCarrick), as well as popular gals about town Sonee Daze, Vanessa Starling and a very special guest – and Gayborhood familiar – Joe Black as you’ve never seen him.

“It’ll be very campy,” promises Beach, who’s singing a little something from one of his favorite musicals – Gypsy.

Broadway & Beyond, Sept. 21, 10:30 p.m., Venture Inn, 255 S. Camac St., 215-545-8731.
