Real Weddings: Peiti & David Choi
Peiti and David Choi knew from the second they got engaged that they wanted a Philadelphia wedding — they both grew up in the city. They wanted it to have a modern-chic vibe, with an Asian flair, as a nod to their heritage. They wanted everything to be seamless and easy, which meant finding a space that could host both their ceremony and the reception — and their overnight guests. The one thing this happy couple, who now live in Wayne, weren’t sure of was whether they could actually pull all this off in less than six months. After meeting at a mutual friend’s birthday party in Old City in the summer of 2006, they started dating and eventually moved into a house in Narberth. Last May, Peiti (pronounced “pay-tee”) returned home from a business trip to find David kneeling on the floor when she walked through the door. “I was so confused to find him home in the middle of the day,” she says. “And I just thought he fell or something. I didn’t even notice the dimmed lights, or the candles, or the flowers all over the place. Or the ring!” Their families both hoped for a wedding by the end of the year, and after some digging around, David and Peiti found that a Friday-night wedding at the Westin Philadelphia — availability just a mere five and a half months away! — suited their varied needs. From there, it all just came together. The only hiccup was, of all things, the World Series landing in Philly: The Westin was contractually obligated to provide rooms for the throngs of MLB staffers streaming into town, and at the very last second, the wedding guests almost got bumped from their rooms. In the end, though, they didn’t, and, says Peiti, “Everything was just so perfect.”
