Magpie, Philly’s All-Pie Restaurant, Will Close
Holly Ricciardi's South Street pie boutique will serve its last slices next month.
This winter, Philly will lose one of its most distinctive restaurants. Holly Ricciardi, baker-owner at Magpie Artisan Pies in Graduate Hospital, has announced that she’ll close the all-pie spot as of Christmas Eve.
Ricciardi opened Magpie six years ago at 1622 South Street with the goal of bringing Philly a unique concept it didn’t have — a brick-and-mortar homage to pie.
The business isn’t in trouble, she said, and there are no problems with landlords, repairs, or other typical issues that can cause a successful restaurant to close. In fact, business is good.
It’s just that after selling 30,000 Best of Philly-winning pies, writing a cookbook, and teaching pie-making classes, Ricciardi feels she’s accomplished her goal of sharing a love of pie with Philadelphia and is ready to move on to something new. No word on what that is yet.
We have less than a month of Magpie left — the shop’s last service will be on December 23rd — so get down there for a goodbye slice or pie milkshake while you can.
