Where To Eat This Weekend: You Can Do Better Than Wawa

Plus a Friday night date-night deal, and a family-style feast on Sunday.

On the patio at Russet

Before the day comes when all of our dinners are designed by robots, we should all really get out there and enjoy something awesome made by an actual, human chef. With that in mind, here are a few ways to answer that most important question of all: What should we eat this weekend?

  • First, you should absolutely be eating all the empanadas you can handle because tomorrow, April 8, is National Empanada Day. And while around here, every day is empanada day, over at Jezabel’s they’re dedicating the entire day to making and serving nothing but empanadas. We’ve got all the details on Jezabel’s empanada day celebrations right here.
  • Next, since spring is here, you should probably be looking for some place to eat ramps, right? I mean, I’m pretty sure that’s just a law now. As soon as the sun comes back and that nasty, black street snow all melts, everyone must eat ramps, take pictures of ramps, talk to their friends about ramps. And it’s not just ramps, either, but all those spring foods that people go crazy over. Things like soft-shells, the naked cannibal garbagemen of the sea.
  • If you’re looking for something new for you and all your friends to do this weekend, absolutely check out the eat-with-your-hands Kamayan dinners on Sundays at Perla. There are like a dozen great reasons why you should be checking out chef Lou Boquila’s Filipino restaurant just off East Passyunk, but the Kamayan dinner is absolutely the best of them.
  • Or what about a date night? Russet has you covered there with their new four-course Friday Night Date Night dinner-for-two special. Russet is already adorable, and the kitchen is killing it, so this ought to be a good bet. Tonight is the first one, and we’ve got all the details for you right here.
  • Finally, all the talk earlier in the week about the decline and fall of the Wawa hoagie just made us sad. And a little bit hungry. So if you’re looking to score some truly excellent sandwiches this weekend, look no further than our list of the 25 Best Sandwiches in Philly Right Now. If you can’t find a worthwhile weekend lunch somewhere in here then you’re already dead inside.
