Take a 90-Minute Spin Class for Charity During This Revolutions for Research Event

A live deejay, 100 bikes and a whole lot of good vibes will make up this year's Revolutions for Research event on October 6.

If you made it out to City Fitness’s Commotion event last month, then you know what an awesome — albeit surprising — workout space The Fillmore is. It helps that adding a live deejay to any fitness event is a no-brainer formula for a high-energy workout. Which is why we’re excited to see another group is planning a Fillmore workout to the beat of a live deejay: the American Association for Cancer Research (AACR)’s Revolutions for Research.

On Saturday, October 6, 100 bikes will fill the floor of the Fillmore for a spin-a-thon-style fundraiser. Cyclists of all skill levels are welcome to join a team or ride solo to raise money for the AACR, which researches nearly 200 types of cancer. If you choose to ride in a team, there’s a three-person maximum for each team and your team will be allotted one bike, which team members can alternate on and off of during the 90-minute shift. If you’re a solo rider, get ready to pedal for the entire hour-and-a-half time slot.

During the day, Revolutions for Research will feature two waves of rides. The first wave will take place 8 to 9:30 a.m. and the second will be from 9:30 to 11 a.m. These sessions will be led by local spin instructors, Marissa Slimm of Revel Ride in Graduate Hospital and Jordan Deane of Soulbeat Studio in Audubon and you better believe these pros will bring the energy for this fundraising ride.

In addition to this event providing a great workout and a philanthropic enterprise, participants will enjoy treats from Honeygrow and Wawa. Plus, there will be prizes for those who meet and exceed their fundraising goals.

Register for Revolutions for Research here, it’s a $50 registration fee (or $75 if you’re feeling wild and want to ride both sessions) and each participating individual — whether you’re on a team or not — must raise at least $200 (including your registration fee) by October 3.

The Fillmore is located at 29 East Allen Street in Fishtown.
