Yoga at Martha in Kensington

Guys, let’s hope this isn’t a passing trend because I think the folks at Wissahickon Brewing Company, Martha and Federal Distilling are truly on to something. These three gems of local institutions are offering on-site yoga classes (some recurring!) followed by the chance to rehydrate with their specialties. Now, that’s a reward system I can get on board with. Who’s with me?

Check out this crop of yoga sessions, all followed by drink or two, below.

What: Wissahickon Warriors Yoga at Wissahickon Brewing Company
When: Every Sunday from 12 to 1 p.m.
Where: Wissahickon Brewing Company, 3705 West School House Lane, East Falls
Cost: $12
What to Expect: Maria Sylvester Terry, of Sweat Fitness and Dana Hot Yoga, guides the group through a one-hour vinyasa flow, open to yogis of all levels. After getting in a good stretch, all participants are welcome to enjoy a pint of the brewery’s brew — which is included in the cost of admission — with fellow yogis and community members. Be sure to bring your own mat, but blocks will be provided. You can find more details here.

What: Yoga and Beer Tasting at Martha
When: First Tuesday of every month; the next class is scheduled for June 6th at 6 p.m.
Where: Martha, 2113 East York Street, Fishtown
Cost: $15
What to Expect: During this monthly class, Jake Panasevich, king of Broga, leads the group through a powerful series of poses. Just be sure to bring your own mat. The event takes place on the floor of Martha, amongst the tables and feet from the bar — for easy access, of course! You can email Jake here to sign up in advance, which might be a good idea — the last class sold out.

What: Detox in the Distillery at Federal Distilling
When: Wednesday, May 10th from 6:30 to 9 p.m.
Where: Federal Distilling, 1700 North Hannock Street, Kensington
Cost: $40
What to Expect: If you are a lover of yoga, food and vodka, this is THE yoga shindig for you. Yoga kicks off the event with an hour-long, all-levels, vinyasa flow starting at 6:30 p.m. in the distillery (like, where the magic happens). Once the group is loose, there’s an educational tour of the distillery followed by drinks (featuring Stateside Vodka) and snacks to loosen up even more — all of which is included in the price of admission. Sign up here by May 5th to get in on the action!

Cheers!
