Meet Penelope, This Week’s Adoptable Walking Dog

Penelope

Penelope

This week’s adoptable Penelope has not had it easy: She was found as a stray, seriously underweight and dehydrated. But being the charmer she is, she made her way into foster care and is now thriving. The Monster Milers aren’t sure how she’ll be as a running partner yet, but she LOVES to walk — so if you’re looking for someone to tackle the Wissackon’s All Trails Challenge with, you just might have found your partner in trail-walking crime.

Name: Penelope

Age:  1.5 years

Breed: Terrier Mix

Size: Currently 35 pounds, but still needs to gain at least 7 more

Background: Penelope was a stray in the southwest area of Philadelphia. She was picked up by ACCT in dire condition, starving and dehydrated. Due to the serious nature of her condition, she was at the shelter for just three days before being put on the euthanasia list. Despite her neglected past, in those three days Penelope charmed and stole the hearts of quite a few volunteers who feverishly worked behind the scenes to find this sweet gentle dog somewhere to go. In a very short time span Penelope went from starving on the streets to loving life in her foster home where she is gaining weight, sleeping on a soft bed and getting tons and tons of love.

Running style: Penelope has not quite developed her running style just yet. She is working on gaining weight and building some muscle which we all know can take some time. But Penelope DOES love going for walks — anywhere, anytime, with anyone!

Why Penelope could be the right dog for you: If you are looking for a gentle, sweet young dog who is eager to please, quick to adapt and happy to see you then Penelope could be the girl for you. Her petite size makes her a perfect fit for almost any type of accommodations, whether it be an apartment in the city or a farm out in the country, Penelope will fit right in. Do you already have a resident dog? Well, that’s good news too because Penelope seems to really thrive in the company of other canines!

If you’re interested in adopting Penelope, you can find out more about her from Street Tails Animal Rescue in Northern Liberties. You can fill out an adoption application here, or contact them by phone (267-761-9434) or email. And for more awww-worthy photos, check out our previous adoptable running dogs here.

…………….

We work with The Monster Milers each and every week to profile local running dogs waiting to be adopted. The Monster Milers are a group of runners who help shelter dogs burn off energy and get much-needed exercise by taking them on runs around the city, and they also just launched their first-of-it’s-kind Adopt a Running Buddy foster program. If you’re not in the market for a pup right now, but would still love to help out homeless dogs, you can always become a Monster Miler volunteer or foster parent. Find out more about how to get started with those processes here.
