This Philly Yoga Studio Just Closed One Location, Is Opening Two Others

Sad news for the folks of Northern Liberties — but good news for yogis in East Falls and West Philly.

SANKHYA Yoga, which up until March 31st was located at 413 Fairmount Avenue, has shuttered its Northern Liberties location. But before you shed a tear, know: They’re opening two new locations, one in East Falls and one in West Philly, this spring.

So, why the move from Northern Liberties? “Leaving Northern Liberties was a tough decision,” studio owner Kierra Winters says. “This neighborhood had been the home of our studio since 2008. We were at a crossroads with deciding what would be best for the growth of our business for the next decade and beyond. With this in mind, we decided to literally branch out. And so we did so in two directions.”

Winters says choosing East Falls for a location was a no-brainer. “It is a community that I have come to love while doing child literacy improvement work at the Falls of Schuylkill Branch library, along with offering community-based yoga classes in my spare time.” And when it comes to West Philly, it was all about timing: An old friend of Winters’ happened to be opening an acupuncture studio and was looking to share space. And voila: A small West Philly studio was born.

As Winters tells us, the 800-square-foot East Falls studio, located at 3501 Scotts Lane, will serve as a sort of hub for the two studios, and will be open for classes on Monday, April 25th. The West Philly studio, at 4311 Lancaster Avenue on the second floor, will be a bit smaller, at 500 square feet — Winters describes it as a “cozy, sweet nook” — and will be open for classes Monday, June 6th.

“Both spaces will have their own unique heart beat and vibration while maintaining the essence of our brand of yoga,” Winters says. That being, “To just be, just show up and be present — the yoga will take it from there.”

Class prices and schedules for the studios will vary. And for everyone who likes a deal (who doesn’t?), SANKHYA is currently running a new student special in anticipation of their East Falls opening: two weeks of classes for $30. You can snag that deal here, and you can keep up with SANKHYA and the new studio openings on their Facebook page here.
