Back in August, we got pretty jazzed when we found out Austin, Texas-based Snap Kitchen, a healthy market-meets-takeout restaurant concept, was expanding in a big way in our area, with a slew of stores planned for the city and ‘burbs. Now we have more details — that is, exactly where those outposts will be located. And, yup, we’re jazzed all over again.

The mothership — i.e. an 8,500-square-foot central kitchen, where all the chef-made food is freshly prepared — will be planted in Kensington. That commissary will provide the from-scratch goods (which includes condiments, if you’re wondering) for all seven locations in our area. Four are slated to open by the end of February; you’ll find them in Rittenhouse Square (1901 Chestnut Street), Old City (259 Market Street), Spring Garden (1901 Callowhill Street), and Malvern (5 South Morehall Road).

By the end of the year, three more locations are expected to be up and running. They’ll be located in Midtown Village (1109 Walnut Street), Villanova (address TBA) and Cherry Hill (address TBA).

Snap Kitchen serves prepared and easily reheat-able food for breakfast, lunch and dinner. The idea is to make healthy eating, well, a snap. The stores will serve ready-to-go meals, snacks and pressed juices.

The Philly outposts will be the first Snap Kitchen locations in the Northeast. The 36 others are located in Austin, Houston, Dallas and Chicago.
