To Do: Great American Backyard Campout on the Schuylkill

A good old camping weekend, right outside Center City!

Okay, so just because we Philadelphians live in a city doesn’t mean we can’t go camping in our own backyard. This weekend, the Schuyllkill Center for Environmental Education in Roxborough is hosting the Great American Backyard Campout, a family-friendly campout under the stars. And it has all the fixins: You’ll cook outdoors, learn camp skills, fish, hike and build campfires.

You’ll check in between 3 and 5 p.m. on Saturday and check out at 11:30 a.m. on Sunday; Saturday dinner and Sunday breakfast are included. On Sunday, there’s also a special clinic about camping gear. Bring your own tent if you have one and if not, you can rent one for an extra fee. Register by calling 215-482-7300, extension 110.

$35, June 22nd through 23rd, Schuyllkill Center for Environmental Education, 8480 Hagy’s Mill Road, Philadelphia.
