Philly Ring Girls, Fire-Breathers and Spanish-Speakers Sought for Rocky Spinoff Creed

Sylvester Stallone is back in the City of Brotherly Love (see!) and he’s calling for backup. Heery Casting, a local casting agency, is seeking locals from all walks of the life to join the cast of the latest Rocky spinoff, Creed. Over 5,500 extras will be featured in the film, which finds Rocky playing mentor to the grandson of his nemesis Apollo Creed.

“Philadelphia will be a prominent character featured within the movie,” says Jason Loftus, casting director and partner at Heery. In efforts to bring the city’s diverse and unique personality to life, the agency is seeking background performers from all corners of the city. Last week on CBS Philly, casting director Diane Heery explained, “We’re going to show parts (of Philadelphia) that haven’t been shown before. We want to see people from the neighborhoods … because that helps tell the story and helps paint the picture.”

Appropriately, the parts being cast are as manifold as the performers being sought. Some of these extra roles include ring girls, male actors of Mexican decent, and a real fire breather. Descriptions of each role can be found on Heery Casting’s Facebook as follows:

Heery Casting is looking for EXPERIENCED Ring Girls for featured extra roles in “Creed”. SAG-AFTRA or union waiver possible. All ethnicities. MUST BE LOCAL TO PHILADELPHIA AREA.

Heery Casting is looking for male actors who can portray a character of Mexican descent for a Principal role in the feature film “Creed” (this is for a scene that will shoot here but be set in Mexico). Must be able to speak Spanish fluently. Would be a plus to have boxing experience but not necessary. Looking for men 35-55 years old Union and Non Union

Heery Casting is looking for a REAL FIRE BREATHER for a project shooting in late February in PHILADELPHIA. Men and women, any age and ethnicity, union and non-union are welcome to submit.

Melissa Rakiro, a theater student at Temple University, auditioned for a part as an extra in the beginning of January. She explains the process: “The Heery Casting directors were very forthcoming in what they were looking for, and were very careful in not to waste any time holding you longer than you needed to be held.” She continued by describing the push for authenticity in cast and locations. “Nobody does Philly better than Philly.”

Specific locations of filming will not be revealed due to security risk, however Loftus says audiences can expect to see iconic Philly settings alongside locations less distinguished in the cinematic world. Loftus added that the crew will be reusing 3 to 4 local gyms for those uplifting training scenes. So next time you’re pumping iron at your local health club and “Eye of The Tiger” starts to play in the background, do not be surprise if you look up to see a Philadelphia legend staring back at you.

Shooting for Creed will begin January 26th, and will continue through the end of March in the Philadelphia area. Those interested in an extra position can visit the Heery Casting website, here.
