Target Announces Location at 12th and Chestnut

Popular retailer will soon have two outlets in Center City.

Target will open a store in Midtown Village, the company announced Wednesday night.

The announcement follows last month’s news that the company will build a 21,000-square-foot Target Express — an urban, mini version of its big box stores — at the old Boyd Theatre site on Chestnut Street. Reports at the time said the company was “sniffing around” for a second Center City location.

Store officials said the site, at 12th and Chestnut, will be approximately 19,000 square feet and will feature a selection of pharmacy, over-the-counter and personal care products to cater to nearby hospital visitors and employees, as well an assortment of men and women’s apparel and accessories. Nationally, the company plans to open 15 stores in urban markets this year, including in Chicago and San Francisco.

The store is scheduled to open in July 2016.

This post was updated to reflect that the new location is near 12th and Chestnut in Midtown Village.
