Sophisticated, elegant and just a touch goofy are just some of the words we’d use to describe the union of Mihaela Ghetau and David Plaza. The pair exchanged vows at the end of a flower-lined aisle at The Union League of Philadelphia. Standing beside David at the altar was his talented and hilarious celebrity daughter Aubrey Plaza, who you may have seen on Parks and Recreation playing the ever-sarcastic April Ludgate. The actress served as a groomswoman, along with her two sisters. See the details from this pair of Delaware dwellers’ gorgeous Center City wedding in these shots captured by Kelli Wilke Photography.

Mihaela, originally hailing from Romania, and David first met at Ministry of Caring Benefit at Twin Lakes Brewery in Newport, Delaware. David’s dark and inquisitive eyes drew her in while they were chatting, despite the crowd (and noise!) surrounding them. David describes his first impression of Mihaela as the slow-motion experience movies depict — it was love at first sight, and she had the brains, beauty and sense of humor that he was looking for in a partner. After hitting it off at the benefit, the pair grabbed drinks at Harvest in Chadds Ford but identify their first “official” date as a night out in the city — dinner at Estia followed by tunes at Time in Midtown.

The pair had discussed marriage already, having dated for just shy of three years, so David’s proposal didn’t come as a huge surprise. It was a simple but perfect proposal for the pair. They were sitting on their deck enjoying the nice weather, and admiring their freshly planted blooms, before heading out for a night in the city. David felt that Mihaela was at her happiest when she was outdoors and gardening, so he chose to propose to her in that moment.

A two-year engagement brought David and Mihaela to their wedding, which took place at The Union League on June 17, 2017. The pair said their “I do’s” at a white floral-filled altar, where David’s daughters (and his brother) stood by his side as his best men — including Aubrey who was decked out in a black pantsuit with her sisters. The historical and grand venue made for both dramatic and gorgeous photos for the couple and the wedding party, as you can see. Mihaela integrated some of her Romanian heritage by including a translation of a poem by her favorite Romania poet, Mihai Eminescu, in the ceremony program.

Rose and gold hues covered the tables in flowers and china. A beautifully lush white and pink rose woven table runner adorned the wedding party’s rectangular table — a special touch for the couple and their closest loved ones. The newly weds wowed their guests by entering their reception with a choreographed dance to “Casi un Bolero,” designed by Anna Akarman of Blue Ballroom Dance Studio.

After cutting into their stunning vanilla genoise, lemon curd and Swiss buttercream-coated cake, the couple danced the night away with all of their friends and family to the tunes provided by London Bridge. For their honeymoon, the couple embarked on a tour of France — visiting Paris, Loire Valley, Bordeaux and Nice — before returning to their home in Wilmington, Delaware where David works in Wealth Management at Merrill Lynch and Mihaela works in accounting at the University of Delaware.
