Ask the Expert: Do We Need to Include Plus-Ones on Our Save-the-Dates?
Here’s a peek at one of The Papery’s save-the-dates.
Question: Our save-the-dates are ready to be mailed, but my fiancé and I haven’t decided which of our guests will be invited with plus-ones. Is it okay to wait to indicate if people are invited with guests until the invitations go out?
Answer: Since your save-the-dates should typically go out six to nine months before the wedding, you can certainly hold off on plus-ones until you address the invitations, says Carolyn Brandhorst, owner of The Papery in Midtown Village.
“Remember, save-the-dates are a relatively modern occurrence, and when couples used to only mail invitations, that is when their guests would know if they were invited with a ‘plus one,'” Brandhorst adds. Waiting until the invitations go out still gives your guests two months to decide if they would like to bring a guest, so it’s perfectly okay to give yourself some extra time to figure it all out.
