With over 15 years of experience planning special events in Philly, Susan Norcross knows how to throw a party. She’s orchestrated events of all kinds, but it wasn’t until she found herself engrossed in the planning of a family member’s Big Day in 2011 that she decided to turn her focus to the wedding industry.

She founded her own company, Two Rings One Circus, shortly thereafter and began planning weddings for clients all across the city. Then just last year, Two Rings One Circus merged with Styled Bride, where Norcross now serves as the wedding director.

Before the craziness of wedding season officially kicks off, we chatted with the seasoned planner about the top trends for 2015, her best advice for brides and her favorite activities to do on the (rare) weekends that she doesn’t have a wedding to attend.

Favorite all-purpose problem solving item that you keep on your person at every wedding you do? Wow, one item is hard as I carry a small cross shoulder bag with several on to go emergency items. But if I had to choose, my favorite is the Love Balm from Jurlique—it works on dry skin spots, can go over little cuts or blisters to help soothe them, smooths fly away hairs and it’s a lip balm. It is a multi-purpose dream!

Favorite piece of advice to really drive home with brides? Seriously, relax and enjoy—it will go by so fast so try and find moments for yourself during the entire process and the day of to just take it all in.

Favorite wedding trend you’re seeing for 2015? Creative locations. We are seeing couples move away from traditional ballroom spaces and instead their looking for unique venues such as lofts, barns, museums and galleries.

Favorite weekend activity when you’re not at a wedding? Spending time with my husband and dog and going out to dinner.

Favorite thing about planning weddings in Philadelphia? All of the diversity—you have so much to choose from whether it’s your venue (museums, grand hotels, historic locations, parks and outdoor plazas) or amazing food from top notch caterers and restaurateurs. The photo opportunities are endless, too!
