I have actually seen quite a few dads stand up next to their sons as their best men on their wedding days—and have heard of several more. I always think it’s so sweet.

Well, this beats it. It is a video from the New York Times that features three grandmothers who were bridesmaids—at least one of them was a matron of honor—in their granddaughters’ weddings, and it is amazing.

It is filled with quotes like “It makes my heart feel good that she feels that close to me,” and “That is one of the biggest honors a grandmother could have, that she chose me! An old lady!” and filled with images from the weddings like the above and … oh, here come the tears again.

I think this is just the loveliest thing ever. Awesome that those brides bucked the norm and asked these ladies to have such a special role in their weddings.
