Bride-to-be Blogger Leslie: My First Fitting

This past weekend, my parents made the trek up from Virginia to Philadelphia to accompany me on my first dress fitting. I had been waiting for this day for a long time. When I went dress shopping with my mom in May, I was so excited to finally find my dress. The only thing is that it is going to take a few fittings, a bunch of alterations and some extra fabric to get my dress to be the dress of my dreams.

I am not a patient person. I am more of an instant-gratification type of girl. I also have a hard time visualizing changes. So when I finally decided on a wedding dress that would need some work done to it — along with some drastic changes overall — I surprised myself by committing to it.

So far, though, I’ve actually been able to imagine what the dress is going to look like, and after some in-depth conversations with Nilah, who is taking care of my alterations, I feel good about changing the dress. This weekend, when I stepped into my dress and Nilah started pinning up a storm all over the place, everything sank in: I am getting married. (In four short months!)

<insert girl shrieking with excitement here>

I am so excited! After we finished the dress fitting, it was time to start talking veil. I left the decisions on the length and style of the veil completely up to my mom, because she felt very strongly that I should have a longer one. So the dress is officially in the hands of the lovely alterations specialists, and I can’t wait to go back and see it again soon!

It was awesome to share my first dress-fitting experience with both my parents, even though I made my dad wait downstairs, because he doesn’t get to see the dress until the Big Day! After the fitting, we went to lunch and discussed all the exciting things that are planned for the next four months.

What was your first dress fitting experience like? Did you love it as much as when you first tried it on? Are you customizing any part of it?
