This Blasted Heat Wave Is Finally Coming to an End
We're in for thunderstorms on Thursday and Friday — followed by a beautiful weekend.
Relief is coming, Philly.
Forecasters say the heat wave that has stifled the city for nearly a week will finally come to an end on Friday. And, of course, it’ll go out with a bang — in the form of thunderstorms.
According to the National Weather Service, the heat and high humidity will continue on Thursday (the expected high is 91 degrees Fahrenheit), and we’ll likely see some thunderstorms on Thursday evening as a cold front approaches the region. Showers and thunderstorms will continue on Friday — with heavy rainfall possible in the evening — followed by cooler, less humid air this weekend. Temperatures are expected to be near or slightly below normal on Saturday and Sunday — low to mid-80s — with virtually no chance of rain. Forecasters say winds could be gusty on Saturday but should become relatively light by Sunday.
After a week that saw a city-issued Code Red warning and heat index values up to 105 degrees, we’re pretty thankful for a cool down. Sadly, nothing golden can stay: Temperatures are expected to climb again next week, though likely not as high (and not for as long) as this week.
A reminder to check on your neighbors and be aware of the signs and symptoms of heat stroke and heat exhaustion for the future. (And also to bookmark your favorite public pools and water ice spots in Philly). And no dumpster pools (for now).
No dumpster pools allowed! But, there are plenty of other ways you can still have a great time in Philly — legally and safely. Check out these safety tips on hot weather, fireworks, hydrants, grilling, pets, and more this summer ➡️ https://t.co/FFTX9qTTbD pic.twitter.com/Lzr6JkIT1u
