Philadelphia public schools will close at noon Tuesday because of the excessive heat forecast.

The temperature should reach a blistering 95 degrees Fahrenheit Tuesday – the third day in a row with a projected high above 90 degrees. The National Weather Service has issued a heat advisory for the area until 7 p.m. Tuesday.

The School District of Philadelphia also cancelled all after-school activities (including athletic programs and professional development classes) Tuesday.

For more information, visit the district’s website or call the district’s information hotline at 215-400-4636.

Heat illnesses are possible during periods of hot temperatures and high humidity. Remember to drink plenty of water and stay out of the sun and in air conditioning as much as you can. Be sure to check in on relatives and neighbors.
