Two Killed in Execution-Style Shooting in Mt. Airy

Police are still looking for the gunman after the victims were found dead in a parked car on Sunday.

A 23-year-old man and 21-year-old woman were each found fatally shot, execution style in East Mt. Airy over the weekend as Philadelphia police continue to search for the unknown gunman.

Police were dispatched to the 1000 block of Sydney Street around 4:45 p.m. Sunday after neighbors first reported the idle vehicle containing the two unidentified victims, Officer Troy Brown said in a release. Arriving officers observed a male in the driver’s seat and a female in the passenger’s seat of a Chrysler sedan parked along the 1000 block of Sydney Street.

Both victims were found suffering from a single gunshot wound to the head. They were pronounced dead at the scene.

Homicide Capt. James Clark told the Inquirer that there’s no clear motive for the slaying, calling the case “very much a whodunit.” According to Clark, the victims were likely killed by somebody they knew who was in the car with them.

“It does appear that the shooting happened inside the car,” Clark said. “It appears the shooter was in the back seat, shot the male, then shot the female, then got out and fled from this location.”

Police are trying to figure out when the murder took place and how long the victims sat in the vehicle, which had tinted windows that made it difficult to see inside. The man and woman were reportedly from the Philadelphia area, but not the East Mt. Airy neighborhood.

Anybody with information regarding this killing is asked to contact the Philadelphia Police Department’s Homicide Unit.
