Two boys are in critical condition after one of their fathers reportedly went on a stabbing rampage in West Philadelphia that ended when police shot and killed him.

According to reports, police found the two boys around 7 p.m. in a house on the 6200 block of Hazel Avenue after a caller had reported screams and gunshots in the area. The boys, who are reportedly eight and 13 years old, were both suffering from multiple stab wounds. The man’s 12-year-old daughter, whom police also found in the house, said that he had choked her and that he may have been “high on drugs,” according to the Inquirer.

Reports indicate that the suspect had gone to a different house, located at Webster Street and Cobbs Creek Parkway, where he then attacked a 70-year-old and 42-year-old woman, cutting the younger woman across her face and beating the older woman.

Police allegedly confronted the man when he walked outside the house.

“That male comes out,” Philadelphia Police Commissioner Richard Ross told 6ABC. “He is confronted by police. He’s got his hand in his pocket. They tell him several times to take his hand out. He abruptly takes his hand out and they fire multiple times, striking him.”

Police reportedly said they were working under the assumption that the man had a gun. No gun was immediately found at the scene, but police discovered multiple knives, according to the Inquirer.

The man was rushed to Penn Presbyterian Medical Center, where he later died. The boys were rushed to the Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia. Both women were reported to be in OK condition.
