Police on Monday found a dead woman tied to a cinder block in a pond in East Coventry Township, Pa., said Chester County District Attorney Tom Hogan.

The woman was located around 11:15 a.m. after a citizen reported seeing a body in a pond off Zieber Road. The pond, which is part of Pigeon Creek, is a popular swimming and fishing hole in the rural area.

The East Coventry Police Department, Chester County Detectives, Chester County Coroner’s Office and fire departments responded to the incident. The cinder block was discovered on the bottom of the pond when units attempted to retrieve the woman’s body from the water.

“Sadly, somebody threw this woman away like a piece of trash,” Hogan said in a statement. “Our first job is to identify the victim. Then we will find out how she died and who was involved.”

Police reported that the body had likely been dropped off sometime during or after the evening of May 29th, as nearby residents said children had been swimming in the pond the afternoon prior.

The woman was African-American, approximately 25 to 35 years old, 5’6’’ and 130 pounds, with short hair. She was wearing long shorts and a short-sleeved shirt, no shoes, bracelets on both wrists, and rings on her fingers that were of a horse and an anchor. She had a tattoo on her left shoulder.

The woman’s body shows no sign of gunshot wounds or blunt force trauma, nor strangulation. Police said she was dead when she was placed in the water.

This is an active and ongoing investigation. Anyone with information should contact Chester County Detective Sergeant Tom Goggin at 610-344-6866.
