Corbett to Sign Heroin Overdose Bill

Provides help and safety to users in trouble.

Gov. Tom Corbett will sign a bill today designed to encourage heroin users and their friends to seek help in the case of an overdose.

AP reports: “The legislation makes an antidote commonly called Narcan more available to police and the public. It also offers “good Samaritans” immunity from criminal prosecution for helping overdose victims.”

The legislation comes the same week that news emerges heroin is easier to get than alcohol in this state — and that overdose deaths are on the rise in Pennsylvania.

The law takes effect in 60 days.
