Chart of the Day: Philadelphians and Cars

Only NYC has a higher percentage of non-car commuters

This from the Mayor’s Office of Transportation and Utilities: “We decided to graph the car vs. non-car breakdowns between these top cities. Philadelphia has the second highest non-car commuter percentages of these selected cities behind New York City (just barely edging out Chicago). Do any of these surprise you?”

What that does indicate to us is that Philadelphia is uniquely vulnerable to a transit strike. Boulder, Colorado has a bus system — but Boulder wouldn’t be disrupted, much, by a strike there. So keep your fingers crossed for labor peace here!
