WEEKEND ROUNDUP: 29 Ways To Get Your Philly Pride On
FRIDAY SPOTLIGHT: RuPaul’s Drag Race Season 3 runner-up Manila Luzon is all about Philly Pride this year. Hunty is rolling into town to perform at two events, starting with tonight’s Pride edition of the monthly Thank Goddess It’s OMG!. As always, The Goddess Isis and The Notorious OMG will take up hosting duties, making way for sure-to-be-fab performances by Luzon, G Philly‘s own Tammy Faymous (aka Alexander Kacala) and Liberty City King’s matriarch Lascivious Jane. Can’t make it to see Luzon tonight? She’s also performing at William Way on Saturday. More details below.

SATURDAY SPOTLIGHT: Big news came out of the Philly Dyke March (PDM) camp yesterday that, for the first time in the group’s 15-year history, PDM will rally — not parade, mind you — at the busy intersection of Broad and Market streets. There, in the midst of the busy hubbub surrounding City Hall, they will “protest in support of the dyke voice and experience … and create an affirming, dyke-positive space to celebrate the creativity and determination of the Philadelphia dyke community.” From there, they will make their way back to ChakaKahn Park, where they’ll keep the empowerment juices flowing with musical, dance and spoken-word performances by everyone from singer-songwriters Crystal Cheatham and Anessa LaRae to the Liberty City Kings Drag and Burlesque Troupe and Mr. Philadelphia Drag King Timmy Tenderloin. This isn’t an event for the faint of heart. Show up three or four Red Bulls deep. 3 p.m.-6 p.m., free, rally starts at Kahn Park, 11th and Pine streets, phillydykemarch.com.

SUNDAY SPOTLIGHT: Give yourself a big ol’ pat on the back, LGBTQ Philly. This is our 25th (!!!) year of bringing Pride to the streets of Philadelphia. This year’s silver-anniversary proceedings begin with the Parade at noon. The fanfare will snake its way from 13th and Locust in the Gayborhood to the Festival at Penn’s Landing. Some of the highlights at this year’s festival? William Way Community Center Executive Director Chris Bartlett will serenade us with unofficial gay anthem “I Am What I Am,” Cheer New York will get the crowd pepped and celebrity drag impersonators will perform as Donna Summer, Prince and others. Be sure to look out for G Philly reps in the crowd handing out magazines and lots of friendly smiles. For more info on this year’s Pride festivities, check out phillypride.org.
