Phillies Name Ryne Sandberg Third Base Coach for 2013

A rightful heir emerges! Ryne Sandberg—the Hall of Fame second baseman who spent 2012 managing the Lehigh Valley Ironpigs—has officially been promoted and will be the third base coach for the Phils in 2013. The announcement comes just a day after the Phils finished their 2012 season and informed the public that first base coach Sam Perlozzo, bench coach Pete Mackanin, and hitting coach Greg Gross would not be joining the team for another season. Speculation that the moves were, in part, to make room for Sandberg on the club’s roster began almost immediately. With one year left on Charlie Manuel’s contract. It looks as though Sandberg is poised to spend a year in the box down the third base line before taking over as the team’s skipper.
