Dining Out for Life

Dining Out for Life celebrates its 22nd anniversary on April 26 as more than 200 restaurants throughout the region participate in the event to raise money for ActionAIDS. Each eatery on the list will be donating 33 percent of the cost of meals to help fight HIV and AIDS – a few of which are also participating in the 20 percent off on Tuesdays special that can be enjoyed throughout the year.

“At a time when government funding is low, and infection rates are up, events like Dining Out for Life are essential,” says Kevin Burns, executive director of ActionAIDS. “One of the core areas we focus on is housing – it’s the number one concern for our clients living with HIV/AIDS. Once they have a stable place to live, we can focus on treatment.”

Locally, proceeds from Dining Out for Life will help HIV/AIDS services at ActionAIDS, AIDS Delaware, Dooley House, Family & Community Service of Delaware County and Planned Parenthood of Southeastern Pennsylvania (PPSEPA).

To help raise awareness nationally, Philadelphia organizers worked with Shooters Post & Transfer to film a television spot starring celebrity chefs and authors Ted Allen and Daisy Martinez and actress Pam Grier of The L Word. Filmed at Square 1682 and the Hotel Palomar, the spots are airing nationally. ActionAIDS also participated in an online video contest, where supporters across the country were asked to upload videos to Facebook that answered the question, “Why I dine out.”
